Contrary to the previous opinion, which was supported by a non-binding legal statement by the EAR, LEDs do fall within the scope of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). Consequently, all electrical and electronic equipment that includes LED accessories has to be registered with the EAR in future. This has been established by a communication issued by the EAR.
